Child development experts and educators give a great deal of attention to the five “digits” in children’s development, but less attention is given to the spiritual. Often those who guide children touch lightly on or skip over their spiritual development. Since it is less tangible than physical or social development, there may be hesitancy for lack of understanding on how to create concrete learning experiences. Or perhaps spiritual development is only touched on lightly or skipped over entirely because parents, teachers, and other adults are not fully aware of their own spiritual development or have not engaged in intentional spiritual formation practices to grow their life with God.

Regardless of the reason, spiritual formation toward God through Jesus Chris is as essential as each of the other areas of child development.

Spiritual Development towards God through Christ occurs when the whole person is involved in learning in ways that evoke awe and wonder and encounters with the living God and his story.

Intentional spiritual formation practices are the tools for allowing the Spirit to reveal to the child who God is and allows children to continue to form an accurate view of the triune God, one that counteracts the false views they see in the culture.
